Match Reports

Mattishall v Lakeford (Home) 29/01/2012

Mattishall entertained Lakeford and were 1-0 winners in a evenly matched game. The goal came in the first half, the ball finding Charlie wide on the left who advanced on goal before hitting a great shot that beat the keeper. Mattishall contined to press forward.

The second half and were unlucky not to increase their lead. The defence held firm against some strong Lakeford play and everyone played their part in gaining the first win of 2012. Mattishall were worthy winners and this was a great result for the team and a reward for their hard work and persistence.

Taverham v Mattishall (Away) 22/01/2012

Mattishall travelled to Taverham and suffered their heaviest defeat of the season losing 9-0. On a windy morning Mattishall conceded 6 goals in the first half, although Taverham were playing against the wind Mattishall found it difficult to cope with the conditions and Taverham took full advantage.

The second half Mattishall played much better conceding 3 but having more procession. A disappointing result after drawing against the same team earlier in the season.

Firside v Mattishall (Away) 08/01/2012

Mattishall under 10s travelled to Firside and were again unlucky. Despite some excellant defending, escespically goal keeper Luke Keeley Mattishall were unfortunate to concede the first goal, shot deflected off a Mattishall player leaving Luke no chance. Although Mattishall had some good pocession they were unable to create a goal and went in 1-0 down.

Immediately after the restart Friside won a corner and scored a great goal, a volley from the edge of the area which again gave the goalie no chance of saving. This was a blow to Mattishall and despite some good play they couldn't score and lost the game 2-0.

The result was disappointing as the boys battled well against a stong Friside team, but the lack of goals continues to be a problem.

Drayton v Mattishall (Away) 11/12/2011

Mattishall under 10’s travelled to Drayton and ere again involved in an entertaining game. Both sides played attacking football in an even first half. Mattishall pressed hard but were unable to create a clear chance and it was Drayton who scored the only goal of the game.

The second half saw Mattishall unable to score, a long range shot by Harry Gagen was well saved by the goalkeeper and in the last minute a free kick by Charlie Dickerson was again unable to beat the goalkeeper. Mattishall deserved to get something from the game, the defence was again resilient, but the lack of goals is the real problem.

Mattishall v Norwich United (Home) 04/12/2011

Mattishall under 10’s played Norwich United in a hard contested match. The visitors started the game better than Mattishall scoring from a corner with a well-placed header. This seemed to unsettle Mattishall and they conceded a second goal, allowing the Norwich United player too much time and space to score from the edge of the area.

Despite going down 2-0 Mattishall improved and finished the half strongly. The second half was much more even, Mattishall had the greater share of play but were unable to create any clear cut chances. Overall a good team performance, especially the last 30 minutes, everyone needs to take that commitment into every game for the full 40 minutes.

Mattishall v Hethersett (Home) 27/11/2011

Mattishall under 10's entertained Hethersett in an evenly matched game.

In the first half both teams went close to scoring but a combination of bad luck and good goalkeeping kept the score at 0-0.

In the second half Mattishall kept attacking and were rewarded with a goal by Harry Gagen, who chased a through ball and lobbed
the oncoming goalie to score. Mattishall's defence held firm, with Joe Culyer again in fine form, to keep a clean sheet and a win of 1-0.

A good game against a determined Hethersett team.

MOM: Joe culyer

LC2 East Coast Warriors v Mattishall 20/11/2011

Final Score 3-1 to ECW

MOM: Luke

Dereham Town v Mattishall (Away) 13/11/2011

Mattishall secured their first win of the season in a convincing game against Dereham Town. 3 goals were scored in the first half, 2 by Charlie and 1 by Harvey. Dereham came back with late goal in the first half. The team played well together to prevent any further efforts by Dereham resulting in a goal.

A much needed win for Mattishall under 10's and has buoyed up the lads who have struggled since moving up to then new division which has proven to be extremely tough.

Final score 1-3 to Mattishall.

MOM: Harvey

Mattishall v Sprowston (Home) 30/10/2011

Mattishall Under 10's played Sprowston and made a good start taking the lead with a Harvey Bellamy goal. Unfortunately Mattishall were unable to hold onto their lead and Sporwston scored twice before half-time.

The second half was very even both sides having chances to score but it was Sprowston who scored again to win 3-1.

A decent performance from the team against a strong Sprowston team.

MOM: None

Lakeside v Mattishall (Away) 23/10/2011

The game started slowly but considering being 2 goals down by the end of the first half, Mattishall competed a lot better as the game went on.

The second half was a good performance by the team. It was a good, competitive match and Mattishall were unlucky not to get something out of it.

Final score 2-0.

MOM: Harvey

Mattishall v Taverham (Home) 16/10/2011

Mattishall under 10's entertained table topping Taverham in an exciting match. Mattishall started strongly and were more than a match for their unbeaten opponents and deservedly took the lead, Charlie Dickerson scoring from long range. Mattishall continued to play well and went in at half time 1 - 0 up.

Taverham scored early in the second half and then Mattishall conceded another goal. Despite this Mattishall continued to create chances, hitting the post and putting the Taverham defence under pressure. Eventually they equalised with another fine goal by Charlie Dickerson.

The final score was 2-2 and the whole team played exceptionally well and proved that they are more than capable of competing against the top teams in this league.

MOM: The Team

Mattishall v Diss (Away) 02/10/11

Mattishall Under 10's travelled to Diss for another tough game. They conceded 2 quick goals which dented their confidence, despite some spited defensive work Diss scored again to lead 3-0 at half time.

The second half followed a similar pattern although Mattishall had more of the play they were unable to breakdown a strong Diss team, and eventually lost 6-0.

A difficult match for the team but one that they can learn a lot from.

MOM: Joe Culyer

Mattishall v Firside (Home) 25/09/2011

Mattishall Under 10’s played at home against Firside. A good game and performance from Mattishall did not reflect the 1-3 result.

Firside went in front with Charlie Dickerson getting the equaliser. Long range shots the order of the day for Firside saw them get their second.
With an own goal late on it was too much for Mattishall to recover from.

Full time 1-3

MOM: Charlie Dickerson

Mattishall v Hillside (Away) 18/09/2011

Mattishall Under 10’s travelled to Hillside for their first away game of the season. After some early pressure from Hillside, Mattishall settled into the game and had a good spell of possession. But it took a glorious goal from Harry Gagen, cutting in from the left to bed the ball in the top right hand corner to break the deadlock.

In the second half Mattishall continued to press forward but were unable to score and Hillside managed a late equaliser.

A good performance to earn their first point. Full time 1-1.

MOM: Harry Gagen

Mattishall v Drayton (Home) 11/09/11

Mattishall under 10's started the season at home against Drayton. The first half saw Mattishall under pressure from a strong Drayton side, despite some good defending Drayton scored mid-way through the first half. The second half Mattishall had more of the ball but were unable to breakdown the Drayton defence. Drayton then scored direct from a corner and the game finished 2-0.

A difficult first game but the whole team competed well against good opposition.

MOM: Tyler O'Connor
